Option 2:  Protect Farmland and Open Space

 

Prime farmland and open space is protected from development using various government and private sector approaches.

Pros of Option 2:


• Keeps farmland and open space
• Preserve natural beauty
• Farmers can set own prices
• Protect property values
• Assures future of farmland
• Can use for future recreational uses
• Population control
• Maintains a positive quality of life
• Sustain food supply
• Gives farmers jobs
• GREAT EDUCATIONAL TOOL FOR SCHOOLS
• Allows kids to develop positive personality traits
• ALLOWS STUDENTS TO RELATE TO OTHER THINGS (IE. ANIMALS)
• Keep wildlife around
• Recreational use and function
• Clean environment
• Balances environment
• Keeps small town charm
• Preserves culture
• Helps diversity

Cons of Option 2:


• Government still does not pay back farmers
• Farmers don’t have control of their land
• Artificial market, socialistic
• Doesn’t stop growth
• Just a redirection of development
• Noise restrictions
• Stunt the economy
• Eliminate natural wildlife
• Pests would increase
• Gives too much control over someone’s life by someone else
• Kids could affect farmland
• Heavy traffic
• Farmland protection agencies
• Government control doesn’t give farmers a lot of control
• Value of farmland goes down
• Don’t get paid in full amount
